Lead
Lead: The empowered Designer & Implementer (0 - 1 Year Horizon)
Leads are the empowered owners of their specific departments or events. While the Director or Associate Director sets the strategic goals, the Lead is the one who designs the plans, architects the experience, and drives the day-to-day execution to bring that vision to life. They are accountable for the "how."
Owns the Plan: Responsible for designing and creating the tactical plans, workflows, and timelines to achieve strategic goals. For an event, they are the primary architects of the event plan and overall design.
Drives Execution: Excels at managing projects from concept to completion, prioritizing tasks, and navigating competing deadlines to ensure consistent, high-quality output from their department. They use project management tools to track progress and report on outcomes.
Guides and Empowers the Team: Provides direct supervision, feedback, and support to their team members. They clarify roles, ensure staff understand their contribution to the mission, and foster a positive, productive, and collaborative team culture.
Ensures Quality and Accountability: Is directly responsible for the quality of their department's work and accountable for its results. They monitor performance, proactively address challenges, and ensure the team consistently meets its goals.
Requirements
Functional Area Proficiency: Demonstrates the relevant knowledge, education, and practical experience required for the assigned department or functional area.
Operational Leadership: Demonstrated ability to proactively lead, motivate, and direct team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Possesses strong critical thinking skills and operates with a high degree of self-motivation and initiative.
Effective Core Competencies: Exhibits proficiency in project management, performance management, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, networking, mentoring, and adaptability.
Effective Communication Skills: Communicates with clarity and professionalism; listens actively; tailors communication to stakeholders; upholds the highest standard of business etiquette in required interactions.
Eligibility: Successful completion of a background check, as required by organizational policy, is necessary to protect the safety of individuals, safeguard organizational assets, and uphold the integrity and reputation of the organization as a tax-exempt charitable entity
Year-Round Expectations
Commitment: 4-12 hours a week (Varies based on event cycles and organizational priorities)
Officer Engagements: Participate in monthly one-on-one meetings with an assigned Director.
Meeting Participation & Accountability: Attend all internal organizational meetings as scheduled, providing timely notification for any absences. Regardless of attendance, review meeting summaries and ensure completion of assigned action items to maintain operational continuity.
Assignment-Specific Responsibilities:
Conduct monthly department meetings or individual touchpoints with each staff member.
Submit monthly expense reports.
Event Expectations
Commitment: 8-10 hours per day
Inter-Departmental Collaboration & Staff Support: Leads are responsible for ensuring their departmental operations seamlessly integrate with and do not impede other connecting departments. They are also expected to provide comprehensive support and guidance to their staff.
Event Presence & Information Dissemination: During inter-space travel, Leads are expected to actively assist members and staff with inquiries. As organizational representatives and leaders, they are responsible for accurately addressing questions or efficiently directing individuals to appropriate resources when necessary.
Schedule Submission: Leads are responsible for collaborating with their staff to develop reasonable schedules and facilitate appropriate time-off requests. Department staff schedules are due six weeks prior to the event and will be distributed four weeks before the event date.
Eligibility
Age: Individuals must be 18 years of age or older.
Conflict of Interest:
Furry Weekend Atlanta upholds the highest ethical standards and as a result, Leads are not allowed to perform personal services at the convention that result in any personal monetary gains.
Leads must disclose any leadership positions with any other community based community based organizations that produce annual conventions.
Application Process: Applicants are required to pass an Interview with a panel of (2) Directors.
Background Check: Successful completion of a background check, as required by organizational policy, is necessary to protect the safety of individuals, safeguard organizational assets, and uphold the integrity and reputation of the organization as a tax-exempt charitable entity.
Agreements: Applicants must complete and sign the following agreements to be considered active.
FWA Volunteer Agreement (Required for all Volunteers & Dedicated Volunteers)
FWA Dedicated Volunteer Policies Agreement (Required for all Dedicated Volunteers)
FWA Confidentiality Agreement (Required for all Dedicated Volunteers)
