Assistant Lead: The Capable Deputy and Future Lead
More than a helper, the Assistant Lead is a developing leader being trained to deputize for and eventually succeed a Lead. They are proactive, reliable, and possess a strong desire to master the operational and leadership skills required to run a department.
Drives Initiative and Solves Problems: Actively identifies operational challenges and takes the initiative to propose and implement solutions.
Ensures Operational Continuity: Possesses a deep understanding of the department's workflows and is trained to manage operations seamlessly in the Lead's absence.
Supports Team and Leadership: Works in close collaboration with the Lead to achieve departmental goals, effectively learning all aspects of team and project management.
Cultivates Leadership Skills: Is focused on their professional growth, actively learning from the Lead and seeking feedback to prepare for the responsibilities of a Lead role.
Requirements
Functional Area Proficiency: Demonstrates basic knowledge and understanding needed to perform tasks within the assigned department.
Operational Support: Demonstrated capacity to guide and support team members, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
Intermediate Core Competencies: Exhibits basic proficiency in project management, performance management, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, networking, mentoring, and adaptability.
Intermediate Communication Skills: Communicates with clarity and professionalism; listens actively; tailors communication to stakeholders; upholds the highest standard of business etiquette in required interactions.
Eligibility: Successful completion of a background check, as required by organizational policy, is necessary to protect the safety of individuals, safeguard organizational assets, and uphold the integrity and reputation of the organization as a tax-exempt charitable entity
Year-Round Expectations
Commitment: An estimated 4-12 hours per week, with variations dependent on event cycles and organizational priorities.
Officer Engagements: Participate in monthly one-on-one meetings with an assigned Lead.
Meeting Participation & Accountability: Attend all internal organizational meetings as scheduled, providing timely notification for any absences. Regardless of attendance, review meeting summaries and ensure completion of assigned action items to maintain operational continuity.
Assignment-Specific Responsibilities:
Facilitate consistent communication channels and contribute to ongoing staff engagement throughout the year.
Event Expectations
Commitment: 8-10 hours per day
Leadership Support: Demonstrate preparedness to assume Lead responsibilities, ensuring operational continuity if required.
Event Presence & Information Dissemination: During movement between event spaces, Assistant Leads are expected to actively assist members and staff with inquiries. As a representative and emerging leader of the organization, they are responsible for accurately addressing questions or efficiently directing individuals to appropriate resources when necessary.
Schedule Submission: Actively assist Leads in the development and finalization of departmental staff schedules. Department staff schedules are due six weeks prior to the event and will be distributed four weeks before the event date.
Eligibility
Age: Individuals must be 18 years of age or older.
Conflict of Interest:
Furry Weekend Atlanta upholds the highest ethical standards and does not give preferential treatment to staff who also participate as panelists, artists, vendors, or other services. All such staff must have an approved Related Party Conflict of Interest form to provide personal services at the convention.
Assistant Leads must disclose any leadership positions with any other community based community based organizations that produce annual conventions.
Application Process: Applicants are required to pass an Interview with a panel of (2) Directors.

Agreements: Applicants must complete and sign the following agreements to be considered active.
FWA Volunteer Agreement (Required for all Volunteers & Dedicated Volunteers)
FWA Dedicated Volunteer Policies Agreement (Required for all Dedicated Volunteers)
FWA Confidentiality Agreement (Required for all Dedicated Volunteers)
